Kudos to the Soul Patrol

When I was on the Idol Radio Show last night (go to the Archive section over there to listen to it), I had the pleasure of announcing yet another project that some of our members have put together. As the night went on, I started thinking about all of the different projects our members are involved in that are supported and encouraged by TheOfficialSoulPatrol.com. I am so very proud of everything these wonderful Soul Patrollers do.

So please indulge me for one entry while I give a huge shout out to the Soul Patrol.

The first group I want to give a shout out to is the Whomp Swamp. The brain child of Soul Patroller evancol, the Whomp Swamp is, in their own words, "an information clearing house where everyone who wants to promote Taylor, his music, and his charitable causes can UNITE."

It was the efforts of the Whomp Swamp that helped organize airplay drives to try and get Taylor's single "Just to Feel That Way" played on the radio. They recruited people to adopt radio stations in their listening area, provided them with phone numbers, Website URLs, and e-mail addresses, and gave them all the information they needed on how to request the song, how to talk to the station's programming director, and even how to thank stations that play the song.

The Whomp Swamp is more than just an airplay drive site. They also keep track of Taylor's various stats, including his CD shipments and sales, Mediabase and other chart rankings, Amazon.com (and other site) rankings, etc.

But that's not all. The Whomp Swamp is also a kind of charity clearing house. The site not only organizes charity projects themselves, but they also post information and provide support to chartiy projects created by other Soul Patrollers. They also work closely with Taylor's two favorite charities, Kid One and Studio By The Tracks, to raise funds for their programs.

So I give a huge Soul Patrol shout out to evancol and everyone else who helps her with the Whomp Swamp. Thanks for all you do.

The second group I want to give a shout out to is Harmony For The Soul. This is the group that is organizing the upcoming National Soul Patrol Convention.

Dubbed "Party For The Patrol" and scheduled for September 8 at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama, the Convention is a fundraising effort for Kid One. The Convention will be a musical extravaganza that will give Soul Patrollers from all around a chance to meet each other, have fun, and listen to great music.

So I give a huge Soul Patrol shout out to Harmony For The Soul and everyone involved in putting the Convention together. And a special thanks to Soul Patroller poetcindy for being our liason and keeping us updated on what is going on.

The third group I want to give a shout out to is actually an individual, purplebutterflies. This Soul Patroller is behind the Proud Of Our Troops Drive. The purpose of this drive is to send Taylor Hicks CDs to our wonderful troops stationed overseas.

Currently in phase two, the Proud Of Our Troops Drive shipped 3,157 CDs to our troops during phase one of the project. Recently, the Whomp Swamp has teamed up with the Proud Of Our Troops Drive and will be placing collection boxes at select Taylor concerts to help raise more Taylor CD donations to send to the troops.

So I give a huge Soul Patrol shout out to purplebutterflies and her Proud Of Our Troops Drive for her efforts to support our troops through music.

The fourth group I want to give a shout out to is Taylor's Angels. Although they have been around since January, this group only recently put a name and site together to talk about who they are and what they do. And what they are is a group that believes in "Taying It Forward One Soul At A Time."

What started as nice gesture to help one Soul Patroller who didn't have the money to join Taylor's official fan club has blossomed into a full fledge effort to help people who don't have the money to join the fan club and/or go see him in concert. As of this post, Taylor's Angels have provided Soul Patrollers with 40 fan club memberships and 23 concert tickets.

So I give a huge Soul Patrol shout out to everyone involved with Taylor's Angels and to Soul Patrollers Lmo4taylor1, webchic00, cydter, RagsQueen, PurpleButterflies, maryann1, and DidNotExpectThat for putting it all together.

So those are the shout outs I wanted to give. I am very proud of the work each of you do. Keep it up!

Alan has anyone told you that you look like angel (the guy in bones) You could have your own fan club. Im worried. I went to movies and the e entertainment bit was all about katherine mcphee. She has a video on mtv. Millions of people heard her songs which by the way all sounded the same. Why hasnt our gorgeous Taylor made a mtv video on the jagged street under the street lights showing his elvis pressley eyes and george clooney smile? I want him to have it all. Dont you think he needs to have a fan base other than us. You know people see him, like his music and buys it. People who doesnt have a PC? Am I becoming to mothering? Im from Birmingham, and I dont want him to be like rueben and bo who? I hope they had good financial planners.
