Clay Aiken - He's not just an AI guy anymore

Anyone who knows me, or at least has read my A look at my favorite American Idols from Seasons 1-3 entry from mid-May, knows that Clay Aiken was my favorite Idol from season 2. As I said back then, "Clay was a nerd, but a confident nerd. He knew he was a great singer and didn't let anyone stop him."

According to Clay's Wikipedia page, he has been on seven tours since his American Idol second-place finish and has sold around 6.5 million albus and over 1.5 million singles. His fans are known by many names, including Claymates (a term which Clay has apparently trademarked), Clayasians, and Claydawgs, and are some of the most rabid fans in celebritydom (though I like to think us Soul Patrollers could take them in a no-holds bar cage wrestling match if we had to ).

One of the things I have always liked the most about Clay is his ability to poke fun at himself. And on his latest tour, he appears to be doing just that, with a lot of success (if the thousands upon thousands of screaming fans is any indication).

For example, on his current tour he's admitted that he's not cool.

He's demonstrated that Madonna doesn't have to worry about Clay taking over her dance moves.

He's shown that he is quite the comedian.

Of course, we knew he was funny when he shaved his leg for Jimmy Kimmel last year.

Not to mention when Clay sang Jimmy a song this past Valentines Day.

But back to the tour. Clay went through puberty while on stage.

Which got him in trouble with his momma.

Clay also stated just how tough he thinks his groupies are.

And last, but certainly not least, Clay has managed to bring sexy back.

Clay has such as a great voice, and, as these videos show, terrific crowd interaction skills. I had an opportunity to see Clay in concert this past July 4 following a FC Dallas game, but due to back problems had to bow out. My dad tells me it was a great concert. I'll have to make it a point to go see Clay in concert next time he passes through, back problems or not.

So tell me what you think of Clay? If you've been to any of his concerts, especially his current concert tour, tell me what you thought of it.

That was a very nice blog Alan. I didn't make his concert either but have watched quite a few videos from the various venues. I think the guy has talent plus. His voice is still great and his comedic skills are spot on. I just wish he'd get more positive press.
BTW, I'm also a fan of Taylors'.

I saw Clay's show a few weeks ago. He is not only a good singer, but a great all around entertainer. The show was a lot of fun. I am looking forward to seeing what he does next in his career.

I saw Clay in concert in Frisco also, and your dad was right. I flew down from Oregon just for that, and wound up enjoying the FCDallas game also. They picked the perfect entertainer for their 4th of July celebration, and He was FANTASTIC.
If you get the chance, Alan, take him in next time. It is sooo worth the money. As you can tell from the videos.

Being a Birmingham girl, I was pulling for Ruben to win Season 2 but I love Clay also. I saw him just last night at the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando. He was excellent. He's an awesome singer and very entertaining. Can't wait to see his Christmas tour sometime!

I've been a fan of Clay's ever since I first saw that "funny looking kid with the big voice" on AI2. I've always thought he was the winner in my eyes. I haven't had the pleasure to see him in concert, but living in CA, we don't get to see our faves like everyone else does. :-) I've seen enough of him on tv, and YouTube to know that I would love to see him in concert sometime! I read an article not too long ago by a very skeptical journalist that was won over not only by Clay, but by his fans also.

I love that you feature Clay aiken, thank you for that.
