Now it's the females' turn..
I rushed home not to miss the performance show of the girls because I was so anxious to see who does good, and quite frankly, if I may say so, I was hoping that these performances will serve as a wake up call to the most of the guys who did very poorly last night. Oh gosh, was I frustrated a couple of nights ago or what?
Thankfully, the girls did deliver, and out of the 12, it's safe to say there were about three who were great, and three more who were just, fantastic.
Here's my own take on last night's performances:
1. Stephanie Edwards – Somebody hand me the birth certificate of this girl, is she really just 19? For real? What a way to start the show, this is one girl to look out for. She most definitely can sing, but let's see how her maturity, music wise will work towards or against her during the rest of the competition.
2. Amy Krebs – Pitchy with a capital P! But before I skin her performance alive, I have to give props to her for looking great on TV. If she ever gets through to next week, it's because she did a great job to make herself look good. But her singing is quite forgettable, she was boring, and seemed uninspired to be at the stage.
3. Leslie Hunt – Her rendition of Natural Woman conjured up one person in my mind. Kelly Clarkson, season 1. If that was the benchmark for that performance, she was nowhere near where Kelly was. Frankly, I am curious as to why she was let through, she has a really weak voice that for me, will fail to impress America.
4. Sabrina Sloan – Love, love the energy and her vocal range? Wow. She's got the soulful vibe goin' on, and if her song choice for the next weeks will be as good as what she sang this week, she's gonna be cruisin' all the way to the finals.
5. Antonella Barba – First off, I believe she was let through just because she looked better on screen than the other girl. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, what else? Oh, right, she sounded really bad! Not the song for her voice, and the performance was bland and boring. I'll be surprised if she stays on.
6. Jordin Sparks – Did her top looked just like one of Katharine McPhee's dresses from last season? Anyways, much as I like Tracy Chapman's Give Me One Reason, I don't think that that was the perfect song for her to sing. But props is due to this girl, at 17, she is pretty amazing. Kind of reminds me of Lisa Tucker, all smiles all the time, really cute. Another top 12 contender.
7. Nicole Tranquillo – I think her performance was really affected and the high notes were painful to hear at times. I can't quite discern if she was speaking or singing. She should really be more careful in choosing songs for her voice.
8. Haley Scarnato – I think she has a problem with hitting the first notes of the verses of a song. It's like she isn't sure of how she's gonna begin. Well, she looked great for whatever it's worth. She was good, but I don't think she was good enough to last until the final 12.
9. Melinda Doolittle – I am so glad that she's finally getting the break she deserves. She was totally amazing! And the energy, wow! I could listen AND watch her perform for hours and hours. I'd be floored if she doesn't make it to the top 4.
10. Alaina Alexander – One of the most forgettable of the night's performances, if not the most forgettable. I can't quite find the tune of the song she was singing. It was all over the place. Enough said.
11. Gina Glocksen – She may be a bit snooty in my opinion, but this girl is quite good in hitting the low registers of a song. And when she belted it out, I thought she'd falter, but she didn't, which was really good, I got to see her range. If she chooses her songs and does them justice, she may just be the black horse of the competition.
12. Lakisha Jones – What can I say more about this woman? She was perfection personified. Jennifer Hudson, Mandisa and Fantasia, watch your backs!
Now for my predictions, here are my bottom two for both the males and the females:
Males: Rudy Cardenas, Paul Kim
Females: Leslie Hunt, Alaina Alexander
I didn't count on Antonella being out just yet, I think she may be carried on to next week with her looks, but we'll see what happens.
