It is no secret that I am a fan of American Idol. And right now, in so far as the talent goes, Season 5 was the most deeply talented group the show had.
So it was a bit of a letdown for me to see the quality of the contestants this year. Being a music aficionado myself, most of the people who were let through to the top 24 were below par, if they are to be compared to Taylor, Katharine McPhee, Elliott Yamin, or even Kevin Covais or Melissa McGhee. One friend even told me that if Melissa or Kellie Pickler have joined this year, they would win hands down.
I was so pissed off when AJ Tabaldo went during week two of the top 24 rounds. No, make that really baffled and surprised instead. Why he went home before the other "mediocre" contestants is beyond me.
With AJ leaving the show, I remembered last year's another lone Fil-Am contender, Sway Penala and the reasons why they left the show so early on. After a few days of contemplating about it, I realized that America wasn't ready yet to have an Asian-bred performer do their type of music. I mean, what else could be the reason why AJ, Sway, Jasmine, Camile and other Fil-Am performers don't make it big in the US? I don't think it's by choice, rather, music suits are so convinced, that in the back of their heads, they don't do everything they could to support the careers of Fil-Am singers.
