For those of you who don't know this.....The Alabama Music Hall of Fame also has an exhibit they are opening this spring with Taylor, Bo and Ruben. The exhibit is part of the AI special exhibit to honor the Idols from B'ham.

Taylor's cowbell which he played during the spring Whomp tour will be part of his display along with other great items that have been donated.

The date for this event has not been set yet but will be planned after the ceremony on the 22nd.

OK I have to work Thursday-getting ready for inventory Friday-and I never work on inventory days-so if we got together it would be Thursday night or maybe Friday at lunch at a local mall or restaurant-we have a lot of them!!

Hopefully, if all goes well..I will get to attend...but, that really depends on whether or not we still have "sickies" in our office ...for the last two weeks, we've been hit pretty hard with sick folk ...so, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!

I've heard conflicting reports on this- Is Taylor actually being INDUCTED into the AMHOF (I thought you had to have had a viable career for many many years before actual induction), or will he just be receiving the America's Music Award, and also perform?  Also, what does the award represent? What did he have to do to receive this award? I'm just wondering what it's for... I'm so thrilled and proud of him- wish I was going.

Annie-he's just performing and getting an award-he won't be inducted for a while yet-and he's doing Soul Thing!!

The America's Music Award I guess is the starting point-an acknowledgement by your home state of your achievements--

Taylor Hicks returns home, ready to receive award from Alabama Music Hall of Fame

Give Taylor Hicks a plate of Birmingham barbecue and he's a happy man. Give Hicks, 31, an award from the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, and he's happy about that, too.

The Hoover-born singer, foodie and 2006 "American Idol" winner will receive the America's Music Award on Friday in Montgomery, at the hall of fame's annual induction and awards ceremony. Hicks will share that accolade with Angela Hacker of LaGrange, the 2007 winner of the "Nashville Star" TV show.
"I'm very honored," Hicks said today. "I think the last award I received was for being tardy the most in high school. This will be a step up."

Hicks plans to perform "Soul Thing" at the 7 p.m. ceremony, held at the Montgomery Renaissance Hotel. Other performers will include Kris Kristofferson, Percy Sledge, Tommy Shaw, Beth Nielsen Chapman and the Commodores.

The hall of fame will induct five Alabama natives that evening, including jazz bassist Cleve Eaton, 68, of Fairfield. Eaton, a veteran on Birmingham's music scene, has done stints with the Ramsey Lewis Trio, toured with the Count Basie Orchestra and collaborated with many other jazz luminaries.

Hicks has performed with Eaton in the past, and sat in with his band at the Open Door Cafe in Mountain Brook. Eaton is known for his intense focus and flamboyant musicianship during concerts.

"When Cleve plays, he's one of those musicians who's in another world," Hicks said. "While we're listening to him on Earth, he's playing the bass in Mars. I think that has to do with talent. He's that talented, and knows the instrument that well. It was an honor to play with a guy like that."

The hall of fame will distribute four awards at Friday's ceremony, aside from the one given to Hicks and Hacker. Recipients will include songwriter Chris Tompkins of Greenhill, who recently won a Grammy Award as the cowriter of Carrie Underwood's hit "Before He Cheats."

Alabama musicians, producers and other achievers are commemorated with memorabilia in the hall of fame's museum in Tuscumbia. Hicks said he donated his "infamous purple jacket," which drew applause and criticism from "Idol" viewers, for his display case at the museum.

Hicks said the last time he wore the purple jacket, he was headlining the "Idol" tour at the BJCC Arena in August 2006.

"I wore it in Birmingham and retired it," he said, laughing.

Hicks, Tompkins jam on "Before He Cheats"

Taylor Hicks belted out Chris Tompkins' "Before He Cheats," the song that won a Grammy for Carrie Underwood last week.

Tomkins, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Walt Aldridge and Donnie Fritts, backed up Taylor's vocals with crowd-pleasing piano, guitar and harmonica.

The song was a breakthrough for Tompkins, winner of this year's Alabama Music Hall of Fame Songwriter Award.

Try as I might, I cannot get the video to play!  I've double-clicked on "A new take" as well as his photo.  I then tried to get any of the 15 videos to play without any success.  What am I doing wrong?  Looks like everyone else was able to access it.  It doesn't look like his is #8- it looks like it is #1 or # 15.  Freaking out here!  ??????????????????

Wow, I liked the little bit of Carrie's song that was there. Hope we get to hear the whole thing before long. Don't really care much for the little bit of Soul Thing. I never like that song as well when he speeds up the tempo. But, it probably sounded better in person than on my computer. I hope we get feed back soon on crowd reaction from members who were lucky enough to be there. Maybe they all have hangovers? LOL

I don't like it speeded up either.  Like it just the way he usually does it....Soul Thing that is...HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
