Just saw this and it might be of interest to some of you. It is from http://www.wsfa.com/Global/story.asp?S=7032621&nav=0RdEMontgomery's new downtown convention center and hotel is just about six months away from completion. Several national acts with Alabama ties will help open the facility. Inside is thousands of square feet of exhibition space, along with smaller meeting rooms, a banquet room, and an 18-hundred seat performing arts center. The 12-story hotel will boast 5-star ammenities like a gourmet restaurant and spa. The Alabama Music Hall of fame is among the first to book the center. It will be the first time Montgomery has hosted the Hall of Fame's induction ceremony, which is held every two years. Among the Alabama natives scheduled to perform at the event are Percy Sledge, Randy Owen, The Commodores, Clarence Carter, and American Idol Taylor Hicks. "It's set up like the CMA or Grammy Awards," said Hall of Fame Director David Johnson. "There will be musical performances in between the awards. It's a quality show that features all genres of music." Alabama's Music Hall of Fame is located in Tuscumbia. It's 2008 inductees will be Tommy Shaw of Montgomery, Cleveland Eaton, Boyd Bennett, Ernie Ashworth and Donnie Fritts. Some of them will also perform. It all happens February 22nd -- just days after the convention center opens. Tickets will be available on Ticketmaster in early January. Or to reserve VIP tables in advance, contact The Alabama Music Hall of Fame at 1-800-239-2643 or (256) 381-4417. <Admin Note: $60 Gallery seating tickets will go on sale through Ticketmaster on January 1, 2008.>

why isn't this posted on the new taylor hicks.com page????? c'mon people----let's get all our info on one site! i don't pretend to understand all this computer info but it seems to me that all of taylors shows and appearances should be covered on all sites. how else can i know a show is coming up that i want tickets to. any suggestions for a computer incomp?? i missed the golf thing this week because it was not posted where i generally go. i love the new web site taylor hicks.com but they still have some work to do on it.

Well its not too early to plan to attend this. There are PLENTY of good restaurants in town and plenty of hotel space-and since this is VERY CLOSE BY I plan to be there and would love to meet any of you whom I haven't met yet at other venues. Let me know!!

I called the Alabama Music Hall of Fame to clear up a discrepancy. Their homepage listed Gallery tickets going on sale for the awards ceremony on December 1, but the local TV station listed January 1--and when I called the lady on the phone verified the January 1 date. I also asked her how many tickets were being printed--she wasn't sure but if I remember correctly she mentioned that there were around 4800 seats available--"but I don't think we're gonna need that many"--Huh! She doesn't know the Soul Patrol very well does she?
Anyway I am going to call back in a couple of weeks and find out how many tickets are available. But here's what I DO know--
Come January 1, Jazzy and I will be in the first wave to get tickets through Ticketmaster (which is at most Publix stores!!)--they are $50 each and they will go fast-so ask Santa for some green in your stocking!
This is one of the first events scheduled at the new convention complex and I think it would be fantastic if the Soul Patrol showed up and sold out the place to support Taylor and applaud his performance and getting this award! After all he deserves it!!

Glad to know that I did not miss getting tickets...with the old Dec 1 deadline. Jan 1...gee, that is New Year's Day....hope Ticketmaster is open! Publix where I live is a 24 hour store...but, they closed on my once and I think it was New Years Day...that would be awful!

Down here Publix closes on Christmas but stays open New Year's Day. I would ask around to be sure ahead of time so that you won't miss out. I know that there are other Tickemaster outlets besides Publix--that's just the one that's most convenient for me since I work at a Publix!!
The hotel is doing hiring NOW for the opening--and Jazzy and I were just discussing how much fun it would be to be working at the hotel when Taylor and company arrive for the event-she'd be his housekeeper and I'd be at the front desk and check him in and all-and get to say "Now Taylor if there's ANYTHING YOU NEED don't hesitate to ask"--how much fun would that be?
The drawback? We'd be working and couldn't stop long enough to watch him sing and get his award. Plus can you imagine me at the front desk checking someone in and Taylor starts singing? OMG I'd get fired that night!! And I couldn't tell you guys what his room number was or anything.
And if Jazzy was his housekeeper she'd get to go in his room and see how neat or messy he is--maybe she'd be in charge of the laundry room and we'd get to put some more love letters in his shorts!! Geez I don't think the two of us should be there-we'd cause too much trouble!!

The Hall of Fame has just updated their home page about this event--the correct date of January 1 is now posted and please note if you are going--the price for the Gallery tickets has gone up to $60--but I still intend to be there!

Just spoke with Alabama Hall of Fame. They have had a problem with Ticketmaster and the tickets for the gallery will be on sale in 1 week to 10 days. Keep checking their website for updates. http://www.alamhof.org/banquet.htm

FINALLY--the tix are up as of 1PM January 14--$60 apiece. They're hard to find--at first they were listed under Montgomery Performing Arts as the first listing--then it changed-you have to type in Birmingham--then under artist or venue type in 12 induction Banquet and you'll find them. Looking forward to meeting those of you who CAN come down--we have plenty of hotels and restaurants--the downtown area is kinda being redone so it may not look the greatest in spots-but this new hotel is fancy schmancy and makes you wonder where you really are-like you've been beamed to a strange planet on Star Trek or something--here's the local TV report-no pics though: http://www.wsfa.com/Global/story.asp?S=7614300&nav=0RdEI will be there-so will Jazzy-and we will get some type of pics-and hopefully if my Christmas gift to myself works well maybe a vid. or two? (But don't worry-DNET will be there too so if I don't have much she will!!)
