Here are the details as I know them at this time.

There is a gala on Friday night (Dec. 28) at the Peabody Hotel starting at 7:00 pm.  Taylor will play for 90 minutes during the dancing and entertainment time.  He is the headliner.  I don't know if anyone else will be performing.  The gala is black tie and tickets are $175 per person.

The game itself is Saturday afternoon, 3:30 pm CST.  Tickets are $65 each.

According to the Liberty Bowl brochure for the week-end: "The Bowl's spectacular halftime show honors St. Jude patients each year, sending the St. Jude message to a nation television audience on ESPN."  Keep in mind that St. Jude is located in downtown Memphis.

<Admin Note: For more information, call the ticket office at (901) 795-7700, or e-mail tickets@libertybowl.org.>

Oh, my heavens!
I was a DJ in the basement of the Peabody Hotel before it reopened. (had my own key as an 18 year old)
I spent my wedding night in the Peabody Hotel.
Would I ever love to see one Mr. Taylor Hicks at the Peabody Hotel.  Would I ever love to continue memory making at the Peabody there at that gala!!!!
Wow..Happy New Year to the lucky ones there.

I didn't even see this, I put YOUR message on the main board,  Laughing...I think these kind of things should be on the main board!!  Thank you so much for alerting us to this great news!!!  My cousins in Mobile will be glad to know this...Hope I get some word on if BAMA is confirmed or not...I heard they were the choice for the Liberty, I guess they'll wait till after the SEC championship game here in Atlanta this weekend...Hope Danny will hear something and let us know.....Thanks again for posting!!!  Happy

We wont know who is playing until Sunday. The Conference USA champion will play the SECs 5/6/7 pick. IF the BCS takes two SEC teams, there is a good chance Bama will go. Also, the Tide would be a good pick as it would be the 25th anniversary of Bear Bryant's last game at the Liberty Bowl.

AS for black ties, I would itch big time in a tux. Just not Sarah and my cup of tea. How could I whomp in a stuffy suit?  Happy

For those who have already commited & purchased tickets to the gala, if you are interested in trying to get a table together, please PM me and I will see what I can do to have us all seated together.  I will need the name the tickets were purchased under & how many.  Did I just make a confession?  LOL!

I sure hope they go, Leslie. Look at it this way. You become a Bama fan for one night.  Happy If they do, that Liberty Bowl will be full of Crimson. Bama fans travel very good!!  Happy In 2004, we went to the Music City Bowl, and LP Field was Bryant Denny North!!

WOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!  I"m kind of keeping my fingers crossed that it is Bama.  I suppose I could cheer for Arkansas, but I'm thinking I could be a Tide for one day a lot easier!!!  LOL!!! Either way, I'll be cheering on the SEC and, if it's Bama, I'll hoop n' holler some for you!!!

Wow, this is great news!! Happy  Happy Not Worthy Can I ask, what's the achievement that won him this award?? You would think we would hear more about this!?! I want to spread the word!! Is this on the St. Jude website or something?? Don't Know

I can't believe it's not posted anywhere either.  The "guy" at the Liberty Bowl told us this the other day when we called.  Apparently, it's an award started by Danny Thomas.  One of the recipients was Elvis.  We were told that they realize Taylor is a bit young to be getting a lifetime achievement award, but then he added, "but....well...we just thought he deserved it!!!"  GO Liberty Bowl peeps for recognizing Taylor's talent!!!  Cheerleader

Is there a link somewhere to get a TV stream for the gala so WE can SEE Taylor getting the award?  How about the
local TV station coverage?

Looked on the Liberty Bowl site and Mississippi State has been chosen to go play Central Florida.  Sad The Bulldogs deserve it as they beat us. Well, looks like you'll be rooting for State, Leslie.  Happy

My best guess at who would be the home team is either..........which team has the better record (W-L) or they'll flip a coin for it, but, I'm just guessing.

My guess is State will be the home team this time. Houston(C-USA) was the home team last year vs South Carolina(SEC).

How does that work for a bowl game, Danny?  I guess the home team just calls heads or tails on the flip like usual?

I figured since CUSA team was the home team last year, the SEC team would be this year. I am not certain how that is determined, but I think it is alternating with these conference tie ins.

Hey Danny...Sorry to butt in on your conversation...but, I have an answer to your tux itching problem.  Wonder if you could pull this off.  I saw a Long sleeve black T-shirt that has a tux painted on the front...LOL...it has the ruffled shirt and the bow tie...the lapels...so realistic...now, that would do, would'nt it?

Here's just a bit more on the Lifetime Achievement Award he will be getting (oh, to be there, but they're all sold out now..)

"This award is presented to an individual or group who has exhibited excellence in their chosen field.
Some past recipients include Little Richard, B.B. King, Lou Rawls, Clint Black and Alabama."

He's in with some pretty good company there.  Excellence??  Oh yeah.....!!!
