I think they should have stuck it out with the artists and canned Clive Davis...doesn't seem to be doing too well. Wasn't Whitney Houston supposed to make a huge come back?
ROFL!!! This one made me laugh! Good thinkin', tp4u.

yep! A friend of mine put it all in a nutshell by saying that record labels are banks. If you fail to make a payment they will foreclose and boot you out! There is way to much competition out there these days and it's all about the money and not about the music. We can form a record label called "Idiol Rejects"

I think AI started out with good intentions, but as with the music industry, they see it as a serious cash cow and they are cashing in.

You know what ladies and gentleman, with the advent of downloads and music sharing, legally or illegally, there is a serious problem with selling albums nowadays. Come on, who decided that getting gold is not enough???? It took years before Elvis' first record with only two songs on it, (A&B side) became platinum. My suggestion is: no more selling the actual physical CD, just sell albums that are downloadable. Then the concerts would be counted as part of the sales...but really who cares about sales, Taylor? The execs?? I know he has to eat but you know, he is more competent and can stand alone better than the rest of the people in the business. He writes, he produces, he plays instruments and a great looking....(hahahh! ) The fans......are loyal....his SP has to be the most loyal people in the world and this is why all the critics love to talk bad (or good) about Taylor because we are so loyal to Taylor Hicks that it gives them a lot of reasons to write about him. They will ALWAYS talk about Taylor Hicks, there is always something to talk about ----- and that my friends....is a good thing, no I mean...a great thing! (But the whole negative spin still ticked me off...... )

Downloads are part of the problem and not the solution. True, labels are cash machines, but they have taken a serious hit in their pocketbooks because of downloads and the Artists ends up paying the price. I still go for a cd from a store verses a download. It supports the Artist and I like the pretty pictures.... But seriously, the Artist goes on tour to promote his/her's music and that's the bread and butter.

My beloved Billy Joel's quintissential "Piano Man" album was considered a huge success when it went gold. I love his comment today....the best is yet to come. Such optimism is truly infectious! Way to go, Taylor!

I'm staying optimistic for not only Taylor, but for Ruben and Katharine as well. Now that they're out of the iron clutches of Clive, they can really spread their wings and do what they want to do - be it entrepreneuring, acting or staying in music. Good for them for doing the right thing, whatever avenue they choose to follow I wish them all the success in the world GO TAYLOR, KAT AND RUBEN!

But seriously, the Artist goes on tour to promote his/her's music and that's the bread and butter. They will always tour if they have the audience for it. Touring is as important as the selling of the CDs, I agree with that completely. But there is an article talking about the fate of the album sales being so sluggish that even the purple one, Prince is suffering from it. Here is what the author said about what the record companies should do: Rather than release a CD to no sales, they should make sure the music is free to the end user, and that the story of this acquisition opportunity is a big one, to drive users to download.
And don't talk to me about the value of music. The value of music that no one hears is zilch. So focus on people hearing it first, figure out how to get paid second. If you do the opposite, you're just RUNNING TOWARDS EXTINCTION! Here is the entire article, it's pretty long but it's a great read. http://encore.celebrityaccess.com/index.php?encoreId=89&articleId=22587

I read in an article today that Ruben is still with 19E management, and Clive will be helping him with his next album, so the same could be true of Kat.

I said I would not post to this thread because this was not a shock to me, I knew it was only a matter of time. I don't mean that harshly or that I don't care. This is the best thing that could have ever happened to Taylor. I haven't read through all the post so I don't know if I am repeating anything that has already been said, and I apologize if I am.
This is not the end, it's only the beginning!! J Records might have dropped him but The Soul Patrol never will. We are not looking back, we have our eyes focused on the road ahead and where it can take us.
XOXO Jess
 well spoken!

So does this mean that Taylor is no longer with the management team at The Firm, too?

We had two music stores in our mall here in Bham. Both have shut down. We also had a Suncoast that sold DVD's, it has shut down also. Look at music today....IPods & MP3's....why go out and buy a CD when you can download it in the comfort of your home? That is just what things have come to. They are even making car stereos to hook up to IPods and MP3's. The last CD I bought was Taylor's when it came out...so that shows you how long it's been for me. The rest I have downloaded.

TAYLOR got out of his contract and this to me is Creative Genius. u hv to be in someone's favor to be personally given such special treatment, from my life's experience.
why have it slipped people's mind whenever it hits the topic on TAYLOR that CDs sales are slipping in this time and age, when internet downloads are rampant..practically all kids eager to show off their iPODS, MP3s & MP4s are eager to download and would download it for their parents and grandaunts and what have u, if they havent caught up with the technology as yet. nothing wrong with the slick CDs or even DVDs to come, but hey, downloadables are massively and sometimes all too speedy alternatives. ...maybe becos when it comes to TAYLOR, their minds freeze & feel an innate inferiority to TAYLOR in being tech-savvy???!
i remember TAYLOR as being very tech savvy, working his music on his laptop even as nosy people spied on how those kids were compensated weekly and spend their time outside of the practice sessions during TAYLOR's run for the win in that (almost) year-long competition.
