It's been a long while, but there is finally a new TOSP poll for you. You can find the poll on the front page of TheOfficialSoulPatrol.com in the center column below the music player.

The Swine Flu has been in the news for month, especially now that it is working its way through the United States yet again. So we want to know: Are you worried about catching the Swine Flu?

Go vote, and then come back and leave your thoughts and comments.

Alan - I wasn't sure how to take the question.

Am I "worried" about catching the swine flu?  No, I'm not worried about catching the H1N1 virus - I probably will given where I work...am I "worried" about what will happen if I catch the swine flu?   No.  No more worried then if I were to catch the regular seasonal flu - no more worried than when I caught the Norwalk Virus a few years back.  I'm a healthy 42 year old female working in an environment where colds, flues, and viruses run rampant.  Some I catch, some I don't. It is what it is.  I'm not going to worry about catching it - but I am going to do everything I can to help prevent it...ie. washing my hands frequently, and using hand sanitizer wherever it is posted (in hospitals, grocery stores, the liquor store - yes, I went to the liquor store today because I was having company tonight and wanted a bottle of wine, and they had a hand sanitizer).  And when all else fails, I keep a bottle of hand sanitizer on me, and in my car at all times.

FYI - hand sanitizer does NOT kill all bacteria and germs...only 99% of them.  E. coli is one that it does not kill!!  Keep that in mind Soul Patrol!

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

Marla, you took the question correctly. You just broke it down into two parts. Many people who "worry" about what will happen if they catch it are actually "worried" about catching it. I asked the question because, at least in my area, there have been a few deaths from the H1N1 Virus the last couple of weeks. This has prompted intense coverage of the virus again, making it a daily "In your face" topic.

I voted yes, because I do worry about catching it! Doesn't stop me from going anywhere and doing things! Washing/sanitizing hands and pounding that into son's head also!!
There are 2 confirmed deaths from H1N1 in my county. One was a pregnant mother of 2 (11yr and 2 yr), had the baby (who was not affected) then got worst and died. It was very sad for the family. The other was a healthy 41 yr old male.

I'm sorry to hear of the deaths from the H1N1 virus - there's been a few up in Canada as well.  It's always sad to hear of people dying - but people do die from the regular seasonal flu as well.  I don't know why the media is making such a big deal out of the H1N1.  I think that's part of the problem with the worry and the fear.  It's "in your face" as you say, Alan - and it's hard not to worry when that happens.  Talk about the seasonal flu and tell us how many people die from that every year and you'll have people fearful of that as well.

Stay healthy Soul Patrollers!

My daughter has it. Well they didn't do a test to confirm but they said they know its the swine flu and not regular flu. She got sick yesterday when she got to school and her temp was 99.2 then dring the day it shot up to 101.6 then all night and at 7 am this morning it was 102.9 a couple hours ago it was 101.7 so hopefully it stays going down. She is chill shakes and all and sleeping all the time sore throat headache and dizzy vomited twice. She is out of school until the fever is normal with no meds for 24 hrs.

I figure I will catch it since she has it and plus I work at Walmart. I'm only worried because I might loose my job if I get sick and miss work already missed because I was at hospital with her last night and today with temp so high I am not leaving her alone. I have Asthma so will have to watch carefully if I do get it but that the case any time I get really sick so no different now. I am more worried for my kids getting it because I hate seeing them sick and it seems this flu is affecting young kids the most
