Elliott was on some of the FOX interview segments this morning on Fox5 New York, so if Taylor is in L.A., will we see him tonight?

American Idol 9 Top 2 Post-Performance Press Conference

Crystal Bowersox and Lee DeWyze met with the press after their Top two performance last night.

Crystal tells the assembled reporters that she picked “Up To The Mountain” to sing, because it’s “an amazing song about getting through tough times.”  When a reporter suggests to Lee that he seemed to lack confidence on stage, he responded flatly, “Uh, no I didn’t.”

Also, Kara DioGuardi met with the press.  On the decision to change the coronation song from originals to covers:

“I don’t really know whose decision that was, but I actually think it was a really good one. I think when you as a songwriter have to write about a winning moment and you’re somebody who’s not actually experiencing it … it comes across as cold. Those songs were written by artists who actually did experience … that moment of triumph, so when they’re performed they have more depth and emotion.”

And on working with Simon Cowell, “When I first came on the show, I wasn’t really connecting [with Simon], and then this season, I think we have a common respect for each other, I’ve learned a lot from him, and I’ve really enjoyed my time with him. It’s not easy being put in a position where you’re a fourth judge that nobody wants, and people think you’re there to replace Paula Abdul and can’t say your name. … It was a really rough ride for me in the beginning. And I had no TV experience, so thank God he was there to give me some help when I felt I was struggling. I’ve always felt more like a contestant on the show than a judge, I’m finally feeling more like a judge now.”

    * AINow.org is reporting that there will be a tribute performance featuring Idols on Wednesday, but it will only include Idols not signed by 19

American Idol Ratings: Idol Beats the ‘Dancing’ Finale

The American Idol Final beat the Dancing with the Stars finale. But, as Mediaweek’s Marc Berman points out. 19.6K is a long way from Idol’s 30K heyday:

The final American Idol performance show opened the evening for Fox with a very dominant 19.60 million viewers and a 6.6 rating/19 share among adults 18-49 from 8-9 p.m. As good as that still is, it does pale in comparison to its 30-million heyday. Although I personally changed my tune and joined camp Lee a few weeks ago, Mama Sox stole the show last night and deserves to win. Glee followed on Fox with 11.49 million viewers (#3) and a first-place 4.8/13 in the demo. Comparably, retention for Glee out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of American Idol (Viewers: 21.31 million; A18-49: 7.2/20) was 59 percent in total viewers and 67 percent among adults 18-49.

Over at ABC, a repeat of last week’s episode of Dancing With the Stars (Viewers: #3, 9.44 million; A18-49: #4, 1.6/ 5 at 8 p.m.) led into the two-hour season-finale, which scored a hefty 18.18 million viewers and a 3.8/10 among adults 18-49 from 9-11 p.m.

I don't watch AI. Watched a season a few years back where some incredibly talented gray haired guy won & have not been Back.

Turned it on just in time to see Ms. Jackson sing & then the Joe Cocker number.
How did Crystal not win this?
I'm sorry but watching that 1 number - she is 100 times stronger and better singer & performer than Lee.
Was he just really off tonight?

I am happy she made it to number 2 - she has an amazing career ahead of her. (Not winning didn't hurt Daughtry among others.)

Just my two cents worth.

Adam Lambert Season 9 Finale Drama


The life of Adam Lambert is never lacking in drama, is it? And somehow, when the news story isn’t about him (like the American Idol finale that he never planned to attend–see tweets below) it somehow becomes about him. Funny that.

Late last night, in response to this Popeater gossip item claiming that Adam was cut from the Idol finale after blowing off Idol rehearsals, Adam took to twitter to blast “certain journalists and jealous people in the industry trying to stir up bs drama.”   Read his tweets, after the jump.

Meanwhile, Adam’s reps tell Entertainment Weekly that the story was “completely fabricated”, that Adam was approached by Idol producers to be part of the Simon Cowell tribute that 7 out of 8 Idol winners and a slew of Idol alums  took part in, but came down with a case of laryngitis over the weekend.

American Idol 9 Finale – Lee DeWyze Press Interviews

American Idol 9 winner, Lee DeWyze and the runner-up, Crystal Bowersox will now be hitting the interview circuit! I’ll be gathering all of Lee’s interviews here.

Lee DeWyze tells reporters what it was like hearing that he’d won:

“There was confetti flying, there was fireworks, songs are starting, people are cheering,” Lee laughs. “It just all happened so fast. It was amazing, it felt like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders and now that this big step is done, it’s on to the next step, which is to make an album and go on tour and do all the things I wanted to do for a long time.”

American Idol 9 – Crystal Bowersox Press Interviews

Crystal Bowersox finished second to Lee DeWyze in last night’s Idol finale, but she’s not bitter. She told the assembled press last night after the show, “I couldn’t be happier for Lee. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy,”

“I knew Lee was going to win. People seem to be surprised by that, but I just had a feeling and as I said before, I couldn’t be happier for him. He deserves every minute of this,” Crystal says. “I feel like I won because Lee won. I have such a respect for him as an artist and as a human being. I told him before the show I said, ‘I hope you win’ and he said the same to me and through that, I have won.”
